Description:
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the city of Almere, Kunstlinie is opening the doors to its art depot. The exhibition Almere Collection: From Depot to Studio offers a rare glimpse into Almere’s growing art collection—not just as a reflection of the past, but as a living, evolving story that invites reinterpretation and fresh perspectives.
Visitors are taken on an immersive journey from storage to presentation to creation. The experience is shaped by space, light, visuals—and active participation. This collection doesn’t just tell the story of the city’s development; it also inspires new generations of artists, thinkers, and dreamers.
We’re excited to share that Luna Nguyen will be exhibiting one of her artworks (at hall 4) as part of this special exhibition. Her piece contributes to the vibrant narrative of Almere and offers a unique, personal interpretation of its creative spirit.
This exhibition is shaped by three thoughtful curators: Kasper Jongejan, Mark Wiechman, and Mik Augusteijn—who grew up in Almere themselves. Together, they connect what the city has been with what it could become, blending familiar stories with new possibilities.
Come and visit!
Be part of this inspiring experience—feel, reflect, and imagine the future through the lens of art. Whether you’re a curious visitor or a dedicated art lover, From Depot to Studio promises a memorable and meaningful encounter.

About the Exhibition:
Born As Artists showcases the creative work of over 70 young talents from Almere – children aged 6 to 14, along with 7 dedicated instructors from the Luna Nguyen Atelier, including Luna herself.
This exhibition is a celebration of growth, imagination, and self-expression. Each artwork reflects the unique journey of an artist discovering their voice, supported by a vibrant and inclusive creative community.
Organised by Luna Nguyen in collaboration with The New Library Almere Stad, Born As Artists offers a platform for these emerging creators to shine, build confidence, and share their vision with the public.
As Pablo Picasso once said, “Every child is an artist.” This exhibition serves as a reminder that the creative spirit lives within all of us – the ability to imagine, to play, and to rediscover the joy we once knew as children.
We warmly invite you to come and experience the joy, talent, and passion of these local artists from different age groups and backgrounds.

Learn Dutch with Luna through Poetry & Art
Sundays in 2025, March 2nd, 9th, 16th, and 23rd — From 13:00 to 15:00 by The New Library Almere Stad
‘Since I’ve moved to The Netherlands, it has been a constant struggle with many new factors, from finding a job, to learning the new language, to adapting to the cold weather, to connecting to the people and its culture.
In that long list, there were many things I couldn’t change, and if I could, it may take a long time. But I have decided to focus on what I can change quickly, and that is the language skill.
That was the best decision I have made, because the Dutch language was a bridge to connect me with almost everything else that was new.
Within 2 years I got to level B2 and could stand and lead the class in their mother tongue. From teaching in many different schools to having my own atelier. From having 2 students when it was open last year to having 60 students as of now, and still more are coming. I’m super grateful and also proud of my dedication and hard work.
I completed a poetry writing course in the library 2 years ago and after that I took 1 year to write my first book:”New in The Netherlands” and published it last year in June 2024.
To master my writing skill, I attended another creative poetry writing course with the University of Oxford and passed with high remarks, which was a big surprise and motivation for me to go on, because most of my classmates speak English as their first language and I sometimes still need to use google translate to find the word’s meaning.
I’m happy and honoured to collaborate with the new library Almere Stad to conduct a one-of-a-kind workshop: “Learn Dutch through Poetry writing and Art.”
You can check out this link (and also at my bio) for more details and to sign up. Please feel free to share it with anyone who might be interested or benefits from this workshop.
I’m looking forward to welcoming you there, to share with you the knowledge I’ve learned in the past few years, and to discovering the beauty of the Dutch language together.
My goal is to help as many people as possible to make this place a home sooner and easier. See you soon!’
LNA Exhibition by Almere Stadhuis
6th January – 28th January 2025
Luna has been invited to showcase her artworks and book at the Stadhuis during the New Year Celebration. The paintings will be continuing exhibited from 6th January until 28th January.
Painting description:
Ikigai
Acrylic painting on canvas by Luna Nguyen
180 x 180 x 3 cm
December 2024 – January 2025
‘Life itself is the greatest treasure, and family is the most valuable part of it. Family goes beyond blood ties; it’s the people we meet who make us feel at home— friends who care for us like siblings and strangers who welcome us, sharing their culture, language, and traditions.
This painting tells a personal story of me and my daughter adjusting to life in a new country. It wasn’t easy, and we often longed for our family’s presence.
Each symbol in the painting represents loved ones: the tiger for my father, the snake for my mother, the monkey for my sister (in which of the 12 Vietnamese zodiac cycle years that they are born), and the cat for our late pet.
The cat serves as a reminder to cherish life, appreciate every moment, making the most of every day while we are still here. After all, the only certainties in life are its beginning and its end.
The magnolia tree (brought to Europe many centuries ago from the East by an Italian botanist) in the background symbolises being grounded, supported by the Earth, and blooming to share beauty and resilience, offering its grace to life and those around it.
I named this painting Ikigai—a Japanese concept meaning “a reason for living” or “a purpose in life,” blending life’s worth and meaning into a single, profound idea.’
Interview the Winner of LNA Kid Art Competition 2024-2025
The winner was awarded a full-year scholarship, valid through July 2025.
Ik voelde me blij.

Interview the Winner of LNA Adult Art Competition 2024-2025
The winner was awarded a full-year scholarship, valid through November 2025.
Mijn eerste reactie was: Wwaattt?!
I just like what I see and get inspired.
